Can I come alone? Or does everyone come as part of a couple?
This is a question we get asked often actually!
Some people come alone, others with friends, boyfriends or girlfriends, family, or spouses. We always have a great mix of people in the kitchen. The style of the lesson is quite relaxed and there is usually a lot of engagement between the chef and the participants alike.
We like to think the Kinsale Gourmet Academy is a relaxed and creative environment where people can really get hands on with the food and can really engage with what they are learning.
We’ve probably all watched food TV shows and thought ‘Yes, that looks easy, I could definately do that myself’. But it is sometimes a little trickier if you haven’t actually did it hands-on.
Our classes are small and intimate, but never intimidating. We like to keep it that way so that people can maximise their experience and really take a lot from the class. It also allows students to ask for help along the way as they have their own chef literally looking over their shoulders making sure that everything is moving along nicely.
In fact, it is often the case that strangers come together in a class and end up really hitting off, based on their shared love of food and learning how to cook it better.
Another element of the classes are that people with more or less experience in the kitchen than you, can ask a really good question, that will in fact benefit all attendees.
So don’t be shy – book the class that most interests you and we guarantee you that you will have a wonderful experience and learn the how to cook restaurant food in the your home kitchen.
Here are a few other frequently asked questions that might help you;
How many people are in each class?
Most of our classes are hands-on and this is probably the best way to really learn the cooking techniques. But we also do some demonstration- only classes throughout the year. We typically have up to 16 people per hands-on class. Demonstration-only classes can cater for up to 45 people.
Are your classes hands-on or demonstration?
Our classes are both hands-on and demonstration. This information is always listed under the description of each class on our website so you will know before you book what to expect. We cater for individuals, groups and corporate team building and social events.
Do you split people up into teams, or will I cook myself?
No, you will cook every dish yourself and in some instances you might be paired into small groups but all participants of the hands-on classes will cook themselves.
I’m new to cooking. Do I need to have any special skills to attend class?
Not at all. We’re here to teach, and students of any skill level are welcome. If you’re new to cooking, we suggest you ask plenty of questions; sometimes people are shy about asking questions, and that really is one of the best ways to learn.
Will I get to eat what we cooked?
Absolutely! After the cooking is finished, you will sit down comfortably for a full meal with your class companions, and taste everything we cooked together.
Do you serve wine with the meal?
Yes, we do serve a complimentary glass of wine with dinner.
Do I have to buy / bring an apron?
You can bring your own apron if you so wish, or you can wear one that will be provided for the duration of the class.
Do you provide printed recipes?
All recipes will be emailed to you after the class. Recipes will be available during classes but you are welcome to bring a notebook if you would prefer to make additional notes.
I am a vegetarian. Can you accommodate me?
At certain times during the year we run vegetarian classes, but for the most part, the chef will make every effort to tweak dishes and and he will make every effort to accommodate you.
